OC Girls Top 25

Mater Dei (19-2): With wins over #4 Orange Lutheran, then #20 Santa Margarita and #2 Sage Hill, the Monarchs solidified their hold on the top spot heading into Tuesday’s Trinity League showdown at #3 Rosary. Caia Elisaldez and Addie Deal scored 17 while Janessa Cotton finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds in the win over Sage Hill.

Sage Hill (13-8): The Lightning displayed a ton of toughness and grit in their 62-50 loss to Mater Dei on Saturday. After trailing 10-0 to start, Sage Hill fought back and got to within 49-48 with 3:59 left before the Monarchs pulled away. Freshman Amalia Holguin shot 4-8 from 3 to finish with 22 and Kat Righeimer scored 18 while grabbing 8 rebounds. Sage Hill defeated then #21 Beckman and #25 Northwood earlier in the week.

Esperanza (17-3): Kaiya Mack is averaging 21.4ppg/3.7spg for the Aztecs, who are on an 11 game winning streak heading into Tuesday’s Top 10 matchup with #9 Brea Olinda. Freshman Madilyn Lam is filling up the stat sheet with 13.6ppg/4.9rpg/4apg and fellow Freshman Charlotte Muller has made 40 3’s while scoring 10.4ppg.

Orangewood Academy (17-3): Sophomore Maria Mejia scored 22 points in the Spartans 66-61 win over then #10 Fairmont Prep in an intense San Joaquin League gameon Thursday. Alissa Belen hit 4 3’s to finish with 12 while Jamaica Cheatham added 10. Orangewood Academy also defeated then #18 Pacifica Christian last week.

Crean Lutheran (12-8): Winners of 6 of their last 7 games, the Saints lineup has been strengthened by the return of Quinsey Bryan to the lineup. The 5’10 Freshman guard has great court vision and is a lethal shooter. Defensively she uses her height and length along with her great IQ for the game to anticipate where the play is going. Crean Lutheran faces #18 Cypress Tuesday night in an Empire League contest.

Cypress (15-4): The Centurions will take a 4 game winning streak into Tuesday night’s matchup with #11 Crean Lutheran. Myia Collins is averaging just shy of a double-double, scoring 13.2ppg and  grabbing 9.7rpg while shooting 53% from the field. Isabella Caceres is averaging 11.5ppg with 3.4apg and Vanessa Gonzalez is scoring 10.8ppg.
