OC Girls Top 25 Coaches Poll 12/12
After traveling to Arizona for the Hoophall Classic West, Mater Dei came away with wins over Perry (AZ) and Millenium (AZ) to retain the top spot in the OC Girls Top 25 Coaches Poll. Junior forward Jenessa Cotton was named player of the game in the Monarchs 82-69 win over Perry. Mater Dei hosts Chaminade in a non-league game on Tuesday night. #2 Sage Hill had wins non-league wins over Paramount and North Torrance to improve to 8-2. With wins over #6 Esperanza and #8 San Clemente at the Troy Classic #3 Orange Lutheran improved to 9-2.
Notes on Orange County girls high school basketball from last week and this upcoming week:
-#4 San Juan Hills will be at the Sunny Hills Showcase this week hosted by #20 Sunny Hills. Other Top 25 teams in this very strong field include #5 Rosary, #7 Sonora, #20 Sunny Hills, and #21 Woodbridge. San Juan Hills is 9-0 on the season and has Sonora, Whitney, and Woodbridge in their pool.
-#7 Sonora hit the road last week and came away with non-league wins over La Canade and #21 Woodbridge. The Raiders are now 8-0 and have been led by Larissa Robles who is averaging 14.2ppg, 4rpg, and 3.2apg. Junior Kiana Graham is averaging 11.2ppg.
-#10 Crean Lutheran moves into the Top 10 after beating #10 Fairmont Prep 47-43 at the Pac Shores Tournament hosted by Mira Costa. This young, battle tested group will host Hillcrest on Thursday night in a non-league game.
-Continuing to climb in the polls, #13 Buena Park had resounding non-league wins over Capistrano Valley and JSerra to improve to 8-0. The Coyotes host 9-1 Laguna Beach tonight before traveling to La Mirada and University later in the week.
-#15 Santa Margarita defeated #12 Orangewood Academy and #24 Northwood at the Spartan Classic.Senior Maddie Leiva was named All-Tournament after setting a school record with 9 made 3’s on Saturday. The Eagles host #10 Fairmont Prep on Saturday at Moiso Family Pavilion.
-Moving up two spots this week, #21 Pacifica Christian had non-league wins over South Gate and Rosemead last week to improve to 7-1. Junior Lauryn Ham is averaging 20ppg for the Tritons while Senior Charis Wonderchec is at 15ppg and 3.7spg.
