Santa Margarita (19-3): After defeating previous #1 Mater Dei 65-57 on Friday with The Eagles Nest out in full force, Santa Margarita took over the top spot for the first time this year. Rockwell Reynolds led the way with 19 points and 6 rebounds against the Monarchs while Cameron McNamee added 16 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman Brayden Kyman shot 4-6 from 3 to finish with 14.
Canyon (16-5): Despite battling numerous key injuries, the Comanches have won 5 of their last 6. Sophomore Brandon Benjamin had 31pts/9reb/5ast while only playing 3 quarters in a win over Brea Olinda on Friday to surpass the 1,000 point mark, the fastest to ever do so for Canyon.
Fairmont Prep (15-5): The Huskies won all 3 San Joaquin League games they played last week, including wins over #16 Orangewood Academy and #7 Pacifica Christian. Maper Maker continues to make huge strides in his development, finishing with 15 points against Orangewood and 15pts/9reb/5 blocks against Pacifica Christian. Bowen Hammer, who didn’t play against Orangewood, added 18pts/5reb/5ast against Pacifica Christian. Sophomore PG Oliver Jones is an underclassman to keep an eye on.
Orange Lutheran (12-7): Senior Cannon Potter and Sophomore Zion Paleo scored 20 points in the Lancers 80-72 win over then #1 Mater Dei last Wednesday, only the second time in school history that OLU has defeated Mater Dei. Paleo is averaging 15ppg/6apg in the Trinity League.
Sonora (18-4): After two wins over Top 25 teams last week, the Raiders move into the Top 10 for the first time this season. In their 61-54 win over #25 Troy, Ernest Love scored 19, Troy Jenkins had 18 and Yoda Oke finished with 15. Sonora also defeated #18 La Habra 58-40 on the road in a playoff-like atmosphere.
Edison (14-7): The Chargers won their 5th game in a row with their 42-33 win at then #9 Los Al in a defensive battle. Sophomore Jayden Oei led Edison with 11 points.
Trabuco Hills (13-7): With their 60-39 win over then #13 Capo Valley, the Mustangs made the biggest jump in the polls this week. Matt Mowers is averaging 13.1ppg, Nate Tuttle is at 11.1 ppg and Jack Warnick is scoring 10.9ppg.
