OC Girls Top 25 Coaches Poll 1/2/23

Some notes on this week’s OC Girls Top 25 Coaches Poll:

Mater Dei (13-3): The Monarchs defeated Oak Hills 108-26 to win the Ayala Tournament. Sophomore Addison Deal had 26 points in the finals while Freshman Kaeli Wynn added 17. Mater Dei opens Trinity League play at JSerra on Thursday before facing St. Vincent-St. Mary from Ohio in the Chosen 1 Showcase on Saturday at Crypto.com Arena.

Rosary (13-4): Winning their second tournament of the season, the Royals defeated Los Osos (ranked #10 in the state) 72-57 in OT in the finals of the Whittier Tournament. Junior Allison Clarke led the way with 26 points and 4 assists. Sophomore Mya Barnes had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds while Senior Ava Dominguez was one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Rosary hosts Village Christian on Thursday before facing #4 Orange Lutheran in their Trinity League opener on Saturday.

Esperanza (10-3): The Aztecs defeated Great Oak 58-31 in the championship game of the Titan Classic at Temescal Canyon HS. Senior Kaiya Mack, who is averaging 20.6 ppg, was named Tournament MVP, while Senior Emma Wu, Freshman Charlotte Muller, and Freshman Madilyn Lam were named All-Tournament.

San Clemente (14-4): Senior Kiley Quillin was selected All-Tournament at the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic after the Tritons took second place, losing to a tough Mira Costa team in the finals. San Clemente faces 16-1 La Salle on Thursday and University City of San Diego in the OC/SD Showdown on Saturday in their final two non-league games of the season.

Portola (14-4): The Bulldogs fell to Claremont 36-21 in the finals of the 2nd Annual Christina Mauser Memorial Tournament hosted by Edison. Senior Moka Saiki, Junior Kira Watanabe, and Junior Kalynne Abraham Mendez were all named to the All-Tournament Team. Portola opens Pacific Coast League play on Friday at 5:30pm when they host #2 Sage Hill.

Woodbridge (11-6): Winning their sixth game in a row, the Warriors defeated Irvine 49-26 to win the Savanna Holiday Classic. Woodbridge hosts #24 Northwood in a non-league game on Friday at 5:30pm.
